My Approach to Counselling Neurodivergent Clients
It’s worth me saying now - you're not broken. You just work differently.
Whether you're autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, or somewhere in the process of figuring it all out, I will support you exactly as you are.
A lot of therapy spaces weren't designed with neurodivergent people in mind. But with me, you won’t find any rigid formats and there are no unspoken "rules".
What working together looks like:
There's no one-size-fits-all here. Sessions can be adapted to suit how you communicate, process, and feel most comfortable. That might mean you:
Move around or fidget during sessions
Use notes, voice messages, or written check-ins between sessions
Take breaks, go at a slower pace, or sit in silence when you need to
Talk through things indirectly, or in a non-linear way
Be direct and blunt
And if something isn't working for you, we'll change it.
What you might bring
People come to therapy for all kinds of reasons. Some things that often come up for neurodivergent clients:
Burnout
Anxiety, low mood, or feeling chronically overwhelmed
Identity questions, especially around late or self-diagnosis
Relationship patterns and difficulties connecting
Low self-esteem rooted in years of feeling "too much" or "not enough"
Navigating work, education, or life admin when your brain doesn't play by the usual rules
You don't need a diagnosis to work together. And you don't need to have it all figured out before you get in touch.
A note on language
Some people use identity-first language (autistic person), some prefer person-first (person with ADHD). Neither is wrong. I'll follow your lead.
